Sam Foster – 2024 student editor of the Māori Law Review
Sam hails from Te Tai Tokerau, being of Ngāti Kahu and Ngātikahu ki Whangaroa descent in Muriwhenua. He grew up in rural Tāmaki Makaurau, and is a fifth-year BA/LLB(Hons) student at Waipapa Taumata Rau. At university, Sam is the treasurer of Te Mana Pakihi (the Māori Business Students Association) and the head tutor for Tuākana Business.
Sam has a deep interest in Māori law, particularly around Treaty settlements and iwi governance, as well as public and employment law.
Spending the summer interning within EY's Māori-led Tahi team furthered Sam's interest in gaining insight into the Māori legal space. After university, Sam plans to gain experience within the commercial Māori sphere, or alternatively pursue a Masters in Law, with a specific focus on the role of tikanga Māori within State law having been inspired by the Law Commission's He Poutama report.
